London Stores - High Street

London stores was situated in the High Street and was a high class grocery store owned by Frank Curle, that's him posing with his young daughter who became a village celebrity and known as "The cat Lady"  I wonder why???.   His wife ran a drapery shop above the village Post Office.

In the 1930's Mr Curle purchased the Ship Inn and converted it into a private residence.

Another interesting fact is that London Stores housed the only village fire engine hence the sloping concrete floor.

It is now, September 2003, and I am delighted to report the the owner of the house that was London Stores has taken down the awful frontage and has restored the house to its original look - congratulations Sir, and a wonderful job you have done
